One position for faculty at the Departamento de Métodos Estatísticos (DME)of the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) has just been opened on21 March 2011.

Candidates must have a PhD is Statistics or a related branchof Science. The monthly salary is roughly around US$4,000.00. Thecompetition has been opened for 1 position of Professor Adjunto but more upto 2 additional candidates can be approved if deemed suitable. A mathematical modeller of infection dynamics and infection risks within
the Epidemiology, Crisis organisation and Diagnostics department of the
Central Veterinary Institute. Amongst the core activities of this
department are quantitative epidemiology and risk analysis of contagious
diseases in animals, zoonoses and antibiotic resistance. The modeller/
risk analyst will use his/her mathematical-epidemiological expertise
and/or expertise in risk analysis to participate in (inter)national
multidisciplinary research projects. Most of these projects are
commissioned by Dutch or European authorities and provide a scientific
basis for policy development concerning mitigation and control of
infectious diseases in livestock. In collaboration with the other
members of a multi-disciplinary project team, the modeller/ risk analyst
will analyse complex research questions using mathematical modelling
and/or risk analysis. Important in these analyses are the use of
relevant quantitative data for parameter estimation, the execution of
analytical and numerical model calculations, and the interpretation of
the mathematical results in terms of the epidemiological and/or
practical problem of interest. One of the projects in which the person
will probably participate is commissioned by the Ministry of Economics,
Agriculture and Innovation, and contains a quantitative analysis of the
effects on livestock disease transmission risks of possible future
changes, requested by public opinion and/or proposed by farming
organisations, in the prevention and control regulations. In a second
project, commissioned by EFSA, a generic method is developed and tested
for the analysis of introduction risks of exotic livestock diseases as a
result of import of animals and animal products.

Requirements

Academic training in a quantitative field, preferably completed with a
PhD degree. The candidate has experience in mathematical modelling in
population biology, epidemiology and/or in risk analysis. Required are
proven scientific creativity and an interest in
veterinary-epidemiological research. The candidate has good
communication skills and speaks and writes English at a good level.

Conditions of employment

Salary scale 11 of the CAO of Stichting DLO. Salary is depending on
experience. The contract is for a period of 1 year with possibility of
extension. The location is Lelystad.

Duties & Responsibilities: The fellow will join a funded interdisciplinary project including demographers and evolutionary biologists investigating pre-adult mortality patterns. Areas of research include demographic analysis of heterogeneous mortality risk between conception and maturity in modern Denmark, characterization of the functional form of mortality decline over age between conception and maturity across human populations, and comparisons to and between mortality patterns in non-humans. The fellow will participate in developing methods to link age-specific mortality to age-specific dynamics of gene expression, and other projects beyond the typical bounds of statistical demography. Duties & Responsibilities: Perform a variety of duties involving the application of intermediate statistical and technical skills primarily to the design of a research study (Department of Defense Millennium Cohort Family Study), and to the collection, compilation and analysis of statistical data. The position will focus on identifying genetic and epigenetic factors for cardiovascular disease and its risk factors. The candidate will also have chance to work on projects on testing gene-gene and gene-environment interactions using both genome-wide association study (GWAS) and pathway-based approaches. Applicants should hold a University degree in one of the following areas: biostatistics, mathematics, medicine, quantitative genetics or related fields. Candidates with a master degree in epidemiology, biostatistics, or bioinformatics are desirable. The candidate should have obtained these degrees minimally with distinction. The Department of Biostatistics includes 25 PhD level faculty members and offers PhD, MS and MPH degrees in biostatistics and participates in the PhD Programs in Epidemiology, Health Services Research, Bioinformatics, as well as MPH tracks in the CSPH and the various clinical sciences degrees offered on campus. Duties & Responsibilities: The Department of Biostatistics and Informatics in the Colorado School of Public Health (CSPH) has an opening for a permanent full-time tenure eligible Assistant Professor. The position will require original research in biostatistical methodology, teaching in the biostatistics MS, PhD) and/or MPH programs, and collaborative research with health outcomes researchers, public health investigators, basic scientists, and/or clinical scientists. Opportunities exist for involvement and leadership in the CSPH/MPH program, and for collaborative work in health outcomes research, but all areas will be considered. Job Responsibilities: This Assistant Professor position has three major components: (1) develop his or her biostatistical methods research in their focused area of interest, eventually seeking funding for that research whenever possible; (2) teach and mentor Biostatistics graduate and MPH students; (3) participate in collaborative research.

Company Information: The Biostatistics Laboratory (BL) in the Department of Health Studies at the University of Chicago consists of a group of talented PhD and MS statisticians who collaborate with University of Chicago investigators on cutting-edge basic, clinical and translational science research. The Biostatistics Laboratory is a Core center for the University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Research Center and for the Institute for Translational Medicine (funded by an NIH Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA)).

Position Title: Research Associate (Assistant Professor) or Research Associate (Associate Professor). These are academic positions that correspond to Research Assistant Professor or Research Associate Professor at some other institutions.

Duties & Responsibilities: Statisticians in the BL collaborate with scientists from a wide range of biological and other health-related disciplines. This includes study design and grant preparation, data analysis and publication of research findings for clinical trials, genomic and population-based studies. Individuals hired to these positions will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects with considerable autonomy in a collegial and interactive environment. They will be eligible to apply for grant support for methodological work, and will be encouraged to do so. Teaching is not required but can be arranged if desired.

Position Qualifications: We are seeking highly qualified individuals with a PhD in Statistics or Biostatistics to fill two positions. Applicants who are currently nearing completion of such a degree who expect the degree to be conferred before appointment at Chicago are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates should have solid knowledge of statistics, possess excellent technical writing and oral communication skills, and be committed to collaborative research. The Biostatistics Laboratory places great emphasis on professional development, and provides funding for continuing education and attendance at statistical meetings and conferences.

Senior Biostatistician in USA

We seek an experienced biostatistician to play a key role in our Biostatistics & Epidemiology Consultation Unit, a core investigator resource serving the hospital's research community. In addition to the senior biostatistician, the Consultation Unit is staffed by two biostatisticians, an epidemiologist, and a decision scientist.

Position Title: Senior Biostatistician

Duties & Responsibilities: The senior biostatistician will be expected to provide statistical consultation and support to basic and clinical researchers, attending physicians, residents, and fellows on their independent research projects; help prepare data analysis plans for grant applications; and coauthor publications. This individual will also advise and mentor other biostatisticians, serve on the hospital's Institutional Review Board, and lecture on biostatistical topics.
