The Channel 4 Data Planning & Analytics PhD Scholarship 2015

Hace unos días buscando información sobre variables intermedias o mediadoras en Epidemiología encontre el artículo "Gunasekara FI et al.Glossary for econometrics and epidemiology.J Epidemiol Community Health. 2008 2:858-61" en el que se define de forma clara como la multicolinealiad, las variables de confusión, las variables intermedias, las endogenas y exogenas,....Creo que merece la pena leer el artículo que os pongo si en alguna ocasión se os han planteado dudas sobre estos conceptos.

Seminario sobre cómo mejorar las estimaciones en áreas pequeñas

El Instituto Universitario de Investigación “Centro de Investigación Operativa” (CIO) de la Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) de Elche ha organizado el seminario “Cómo mejorar las estimaciones en áreas pequeñas usando información temporal: estimación de ingresos del hogar y de medidas de pobreza en Estado Unidos (EE.UU.)”, que impartirá la investigadora de la Oficina del Censo de los EE.UU. Carolina Franco. La actividad tendrá lugar mañana viernes, 7 de noviembre, a las 12:00 horas en la Sala Seminarios del edificio Torretamarit del campus de Elche. 

Según los organizadores, la estimación en áreas pequeñas busca mejorar las estimaciones de las encuestas con información de otras áreas o de relaciones entre variables. Para las encuestas repetidas, también, se puede ampliar la información a través del uso de datos del pasado. ¿En qué circunstancias la información temporal mejora las estimaciones? ¿Cuántos instantes temporales deben incorporarse al modelo? ¿Se pueden resumir los datos del pasado para su uso en un modelo, por ejemplo, a través de un promedio de estimaciones de encuestas anteriores? Estas son algunas de las preguntas que surgen. La conferencia muestra que la respuesta a estas preguntas depende de los parámetros fundamentales de los modelos asumidos. También, aborda su aplicación a la estimación de la renta del hogar y de indicadores de pobreza en el marco del proyecto SAIPE. Este proyecto proporciona estimaciones de la tasa de niños en edad escolar que se encuentra en situación de pobreza para los condados de EE.UU.

Carolina Franco es una investigadora en estadística matemática que trabaja en el Centro de Investigación Estadística y Metodología de la Oficina del Censo de los Estados Unidos. Asimismo, está involucrada en proyectos destinados a mejorar los procedimientos de inferencia estadística en la Oficina del Censo. En los últimos tiempos, ha trabajado, entre otros proyectos, en la estimación de tasa de pobreza infantil y en el desarrollo de mediadas de incertidumbre para la “American Community Survey (ACS)”. Sus líneas de investigación incluyen las estadísticas de encuestas, la estimación en áreas pequeñas, la teoría estadística asintótica y la estadística semiparamétrica.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a tenure track position in statistics.
